Speaker Tyler Resigns From UP

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Alex Tyler, has resigned as a member of the ruling Unity Party (UP).

Confirming this via telephone yesterday, the Speaker said it is true that he sent his letter of resignation to the party, quitting his membership.

Asked about reasons for his action, Speaker Tyler declined to comment, but pointed out that he did state reasons for his action in the communication.

The Speaker’s resignation comes in the wake of claim that he is interested in the presidency comes 2017.

It can be recalled that it was once reported that the Legislature would produce the next President of this country.

However, it is not clear as to whether or not it was for this the Speaker has resigned, since the UP might endorse the candidacy of vice President Joseph Boakai who has accepted a petition from his people in Lofa County to contest the presidency 2017.

It has also been rumored that one of the newest political parties is the brainchild of the Speaker and that he might run on its ticket.
