China Henan International Corporation Group Ltd. (Contractor) and China Zhengzhou Holysun R &B Engineering Co. Ltd. (Designer) of the new Caldwell Bridge have extolled the Government and People of Liberia for providing the enabling environment that led to the successful completion of the bridge project.
Mr. Zhang Peng, Site Representative/Caldwell Bridge Project, expressed thanks and gratitude to the Ministry of Public Works as well as the residents of the Township of Caldwell for the level of support and cooperation during the construction period.
He said CHICO and Holysun is not only equipped with state of-the-art road and bridge building equipment but the group is capable of undertaking any major construction project in the country, backed by highly skilled international bridge designers, road engineers and technicians.
CHICO and Holysun, he maintained has over the past few years developed a reputation of consistent delivery of professional service and expressed optimism that as the economic situation in the country improves; the World Bank and other international partners will see the need to implement other big projects.
According to Mr. Zhang, the company has embarked on several training exercises, thereby enabling young Liberians to acquire skills and believes that the future of Liberia lies in engineers and road building technicians.
In August 2011 the Government of Liberia through the Ministry of Public Works secured a grant through the Urban and Rural Infrastructure Rehabilitation Project for the Studies, Conceptual Designs and Pre-contract Service of a new Caldwell Bridge across the Stockton Creek River.
Accordingly, the construction of the bridge in addition to the realignment and the road construction allow access from Caldwell Junction to White Plains and will increase economic activities in several neighboring communities by improving transportation, access to markets, educational institutions and hospitals which were difficult in the past.
From what has been gathered, the bridge project seeks to provide a safer way to cross the Stockton Creek and to enable large number of vehicles to cross the bridge and at the same time facilitate the crossing of heavy vehicles across the bridge.
President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf on Sunday, September 13, 2015 led an array of government officials and residents of the Township to the official dedication ceremony of the Jacob Samuel Melton Sr. Bridge which is now open to normal traffic.
