AGENDA Launches 2015 Open Budget Survey Report

Over the weekend,the Actions for Genuine Democratic Alternative (AGENDA), launched 2015 Open Budget Survey Report, under the theme: ImprovingTransparency and citizens’ participation in Public Budget, with the support from the International Budget Partnership.

Speaking on behalf of Minister Amara Konneh at the program,the Assistant Minister for Budget and Planning at the Ministry of Finance Planning and Development,Mr.AugustK.Blama said the Government of Liberia partnered and stands ready to continue the partnership with local and International Civil Society Organizations that seek to promote good governance whether in its political, social and economic dimensions.2015 Open Budget Survey Report released by Actions for Genuine Democratic Alternative (AGENDA),said that Liberia scored 21 out of 100 indicates that the provision of opportunities for the public to engage in budget process is weak and it is lower than the global average score of 25.

According to report,the Government of Liberia is weak to provide public with opportunities to engage in the budget process and Government of Liberia also provides the public with minimal budget information.

Report highlighted that legislature provided weak oversight during the planning and implementation stages of the budget cycle and executive did not receive prior approval by the legislature before implementing a supplemental budget, and the supreme audit provided budget oversight.
