Profile Of Some Liberian Players Called By Coach Debbah

The Coach of the senior national team of Liberia, Lone Star, James Salinsa Debbah has informed authorities of the Liberia Football Association (LFA) that he wants almost all his squad members to be foreign based players for the match against Tunisia on September 5, 2015 in the second match of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.

According to information gathered, Debbah has already submitted a list of 22 players which includes more than 18 foreign based players.

The Inquirer Newspaper profiled few of the foreign based players for the crucial match against Tunisia on September 5, 2015 in continuation of the 2017 Africa cup of Nations qualifier.

Francis ‘Grandpa’ Forkey Doe (NS Matrix, Malaysia)

Francis Forkey Doe (born 25 December 1985) is a Liberian footballer who currently plies his trade for NS Matrix in the Malaysia Premier League.

He is regarded as the player with the highest assists on the current generation of the national team of Liberia, Lone Star and has scored four time for Liberia.

Doe, 29, and a mainstay with Malaysian Premiership outfit NS Matrix, has won 17 caps for Liberia, scoring four goals with the individually brilliant goal against Cameroon at the AmadouAhidjo Stadium in a 2008 African Cup of Nations qualifier.

He is very good with his teammate and even his manager. He began his career in the Cameroon Première Division in 2002, playing for Tonnerre Yaoundé. The Liberian striker was voted best foreign player and third best overall player (as voted on by the Cameroon Football Federation and the Cameroon Sports Writers Association), and in doing so became the second Liberian player to win the Cameroonian First Division foreign player of the year award, the first being former world footballer of the year George Weah who received the award more than two decades ago.   That same year Doe led the club to the CAF Cup final, netting six goals in eight CAF Cup matches.

He has also played in Europe with Atromitos of Greece and the Major League Soccer with New York Red Bulls, DC United and Minnesota Thunder.

In summer 2009, Doe was approached by African Club of the Century Al-Ahly, who thought of him as an ideal replacement for their departed top goalscorerFlavio Amado. After only one week of negotiations, Doe decided to try his luck in a second spell in home Africa and signed to the Egyptian Premier League on 14 July 2009, on a free transfer. He has featured for Al-Ahly in Wembley Cup friendly tournament, playing against Celtic FC and Barcelona FC. Doe scored his first goal with Al-Ahly on His debut against Ghazl El-Mehalla on 6 August 2009 to secure Al Ahly’s 2–0 win in the opening match of the season.

In January 2012, Doe officially joined the Malaysian club, Terengganu FA for the 2012 Malaysia Super League season. He would finish the season joint top scorer in the league, with 15 goals.

After a season with Terengganu, Doe joined another Malaysian team Selangor FA for the 2013 Malaysia Super League. He is one of the most powerful and sharp strikes in Malaysia super league, and for the 2014 season, he plays for Malaysia Super League club, Kelantan FA.

International career

Doe has represented Liberia in 2006 FIFA World Cup qualification matches, as well as the qualifying competition for the 2008 African Cup of Nations. Doe scored two goals during Liberia’s 2008 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign, opening the scoring in a 3–2 victory over Rwanda on 8 October 2006, and scoring Liberia’s lone goal in their 3–1 loss to Cameroon on 28 March 2007. The striker also scored against Senegal in a 3–1 loss to the Lions in 2012.

William Jebor (SD Ponferradina, Spain)

William Jebor (born 10 November 1991) is a Liberian footballer who plays for Spanish club SD Ponferradina, on loan from Portuguese club Rio Ave FC, as a striker. He is also a member of the Liberia national football team.

He made his debut for Liberia on 26 March 2011, starting in a 2–4 loss against Cape Verde. He is much more remembered when he scored his first international goal on 14 June 2015, in a 1–2 defeat at Togo in a 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier

Born in Monrovia, the brilliant striker made his senior debuts with Liberia Petroleum Refining Company (LPRC) Oilers in 2008, aged 17, after previously representing LISCR FC as a youth. In the 2009 summer he moved abroad for the first time in his career, signing for Syrian Premier League side Taliya SC.

In 2010, Jebor switched teams and countries again, joining Egyptian Second Division club Tersana SC. After a short spell at El-Sharqeyalel-Dokhan, he moved to El-Geish SC in the Egyptian Premier League.

Jebor made his debut for the club on 3 February 2013, starting in a 0–1 away loss against Ismaily SC, and scored his first goal for the club on 12 March, netting the first in a 2–1 home win against El Mokawloon SC. He finished the campaign with ten goals, being tournament’s topscorer; highlights included a hat-trick in a 3–2 home success over Ittihad El Shorta on 7 May.

In January 2014 Jebor switched clubs and countries again, after agreeing to a six-month loan deal with Al-Ahli Tripoli SC of Libya. On 5 August he signed a four-year contract with Portuguese side Rio Ave FC.

Jebor made his PrimeiraLiga debut on 13 September 2014, coming on as a second-half substitute for Renan Bressan in a 1–1 draw at Moreirense FC. The Liberian attacker scored his first goal for the club on 30 April of the following year, netting his team’s only in a 1–1 Taça de Portugal home draw against SC Braga.[

On 28 July 2015, Iron man as he is called, was loaned to SD Ponferradina in Spanish SegundaDivisión, in a season-long deal.

Anthony SnohiLaffor (Mamelodi, Sundowns South Africa)

Anthony SnotiLaffor (born 17 February 1985) is a Liberian international footballer who plays professionally for the South African Premiership club MamelodiSundowns, primarily as a winger.

Born in Monrovia, Laffor has played club football in Liberia, Ghana, and South Africa for LISCR, Ashanti Gold, Jomo Cosmos, Supersport United and MamelodiSundowns.

He made his international debut for Liberia in 2003, and has played in FIFA World Cup and Africa Cup of nations qualifying matches.

Laffor was named Captain of the seior national team of Liberia, Lone Star immediately Musa Hassan Bility took over as President of the Liberia Football Association (LFA) in 2010 and served the position until when James SalinsaDebbah, Liberia’s Lone Star new coach remove him from the position.

Gizzie ‘Tucan’ Dorbor (HapoelAfula, Israel)

GizzieDorbor (born February 28, 1987) is a Liberian footballer (defender) playing currently for HapoelAfula. He is also a member of the Liberia national football team.

The soft spoken defender played locally for the disbanded Karn United the Liberia Football Association before moving to LISCR FC where he later served as Captain winning two LFA Knockout championships.

The versatile player made his international debut against Mali in Bamako when Liberia lost 4-1 (World Cup Qualifiers 2005). His main position is as a left back, but can also play as a central back and as a central midfielder.

He was recently called by Liberia national team coach, James SalinsaDebbah for the first match of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Togo, but declined due to knee injury.

Coach has put trust in the meticulous player for the second match of the qualifier against Tunisia on September 5, 2015 in Monrovia.

Sekou Jabateh Oliseh (Unattached)  

Sekou Jabateh Oliseh (born 5 June 1990) is a Liberian international footballer who last played for Russian side CSKA Moscow, as a winger.

Early and personal life

Born in Monrovia, Liberia, Oliseh was adopted by Nigerian ex-professional footballer Churchill Oliseh at a young age. His uncles are fellow footballers AzubuikeOliseh, EgutuOliseh and Sunday Oliseh.

Career

Early career

Jabateh began his career in his adopted home country Nigeria with Ebedei, before moving to Danish side Midtjylland in 2006. Between 2008 and 2009, Oliseh made 5 league appearance for Midtjylland, before moving on loan to Russian side CSKA Moscow in July 2009. In December 2009, the loan deal became permanent as Oliseh signed a 5-year deal with CSKA.

International career

Oliseh received a call-up to the Liberian team from manager BertalanBicskei in September 2010 for a 2012 Africa Cup of Nations qualification match against Zimbabwe. Oliseh would honor the invitation, citing star Liberian forward George Weah as a key motivating factor behind his decision. “I have my entire family and friends here in Liberia who would love to see me play for our nation, I love Nigeria but I can’t play for them,” said Oliseh.

Oliseh then made his debut on 5 September 2010 against Zimbabwe and scored the equalizing goal in a 1–1 draw for Liberia.

Patrick Nyema Gerhardt (Sarawak FA, Malaysia)

Patrick Nyema Gerhardt (born 31 July 1985) is a Swiss-Liberian footballer who currently plays for Malaysia Super League side Sarawak FA. He also represents the Liberia national football team at international level. He is known for his strength, technical skill, heading ability and industrious work rate.

Gerhardt was born in Bern, Switzerland. He also holds a Liberian citizenship through his heritage. Career

He also won international youth caps for the Swiss national under 15 and under 16 side.

National team

Despite being born in Bern, Switzerland, Gerhardt accepted the call to play for Liberian national team. He was eligible to play for Liberia due to his heritage. He debuted on 26 March 2011 in a 2012 Africa Cup of Nations qualification match against Cape Verde Islands, a 2–4 loss.
