Pro-Democracy Group Wants Finance Minister Resign

A local pro-democracy organization has called for the unconditional resignation of Finance and Development Planning Minister, Amara Konneh within 144 hours for economic crimes against the Liberian people.

The Progressive Alliance Movement of Liberia said Minister Konneh should do so and hand himself over to the General Auditing Commission to give full account of the US$ 3.1bn international assistance received by government since 2006.

A release quoted the National Chairman of the movement, Mr. Mamadee Keita that the amount according to Minister Konneh did not benefit the economically challenged and destitute population of Liberia.

He described such action as an affront and an open mockery to all Liberians at home and abroad.

Mr. Keita accused Minister Konneh of intensively contributing to the suffering of the citizenry which has caused increment in hunger, premature deaths, ill-prepared health and educational facilities; the lack of infrastructural improvement and development, among others.

Mr. Keita warned Minister Konneh that if he rejects the ultimatum, then the situation will undoubtedly tantamount to serious demonstrative consequences from the grass- root majority of the Liberian people.
