NTA Confirms Six Death, 55 Injuries In Tuesday Accident

The National Transit Authority (NTA) says at least six commuters have died as a result of a tragic motor accident involving one of its buses.

The NTA said the accident which occurred at Zeanzue, Bong County involving NTA bus Marked Bus no. 5138 also had 55 commuters sustaining injuries both major and minor and were taken to the Phebe Hospital.

The entity in a press statement disclosed that on the same day, Phebe Hospital treated and discharged 30 commuters who experienced minor injuries while 25 others are being treated at Phebe Hospital in Suakoko, Bong County.

The National Transit Authority further said information on these commuters will be released to the press and public as such information unfolds.

The NTA said it is deeply hurt and saddened by this accident, saying, “As we face this national catastrophe, we are in prayer and remain empathetic with those Liberians who are victims of this tragedy.”

The Company promised that along with its insurance partners and the Liberia National Police, they will do everything in their grasp to bring the situation under control and to work with the medical team at Phebe Hospital.

The NTA, giving an explanation of the accident said Bus No. 5138 left Monrovia on Tuesday at 8:00a.m. and headed for Ganta, Nimba County.

The NTA disclosed that the bus crew consisted of Mr. Robert F. Lamie (driver) and Saymon Jarwleah (conductor) and departed Red Light with 68 passengers, including women and children.

“At 12:00 noon around Zeanzue in Bong County, bus No. 5138 operated by Robert F. Lamie experienced a tragic accident. The cause of this accident is still unknown,” the NTA management said.

The company’s statement noted that officers of the Liberia National Police and the NTA accident investigation team are investigating the cause of this tragic accident.

The NTA management explained that immediately upon hearing the disturbing news, it dispatched an advanced team to Zeanzue.

The company said locals of Zeanzue, LNP officers, other commuters and, their advanced team worked frantically to remove commuters from the wreckage.
