The Liberia Institute of Certified Public Accountants has inducted into office Officers of its Council. The program held at the Monrovia City Hall in Monrovia on Thursday, July 30, brought together Officials of the Liberian government, the World Bank Liberia group, the Accounting and Assurance institutions family members of the installed Officers and the Public at a well- organized and colorful occasion.
Speaking at the occasion, the Country Manager of the World Bank Liberia Group Madam Iguana Dabroja who served as Keynote Speaker praised the Liberia Institute of Certified Public Accountants, LICPA, for the tremendous work it continues to do especially at this time amidst serious budgetary constraints. She admonished the incoming leadership to remain steadfast in making sure that the LICPA build the capacity of more Liberian Accountants in becoming certified as CPAs. The World Bank Liberia Group boss pledged her institution’s unflinching and continuous support for the LICPA to meet its goals.
For his part, the new President of LICPA, Hon. Arthur W. B. Fumbah has assured his new leadership commitment to taking the Institute to a higher level of Professionalism, Productivity, Enhancing Inclusive Participation and Visibility for Liberia’s Next Generation of Accountants. He said that his Administration will work very hard in making sure that more Accountants can be licensed as certified Public Accountants, CPA in Liberia.
LICPA President Fumbah further disclosed that certification exams are now available for Accountants in Liberia and there is no need to travel out of the Country as was done in past time.
Meanwhile, President Fumbah is calling on the Government of Liberia to increase the budgetary support for the Liberia Institute of Certified Public Accountants, LICPA in order to enhance its work in building the capacity of Liberian Accountants for Transparency and Accountability. He has also called on the government to detach the offices of the Comptroller & Accountant General from the Ministry of Finance & Development Planning, MFDP and make it autonomous as was done with the Liberia Revenue Authority, LRA as a means of fighting corruption in the financial management sector in the improvement of the Economy of the Country.
The Chairperson of the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission, LACC, Cllr. James N. Verdier Jr who served as Installing Officer, used the occasion to thanked the LICPA for the tremendous work it continues to do for the people of Liberia and urged them to do more public awareness show-casing all of the progress it is making with its programs.
Those installed included Hon. Arthur W.B. Fumbah, President, Paul C. Collins, Vice President, while Mr. Taweh J. Veikai, Member of the Council and Mr. Wah Nim’ne Elliott Mombo, Immediate Past President were installed in absinthial with proxy representation.
In remarks the Actg. Minister of Finance & Development Planning Minister Madam Tanneh Brunson assured the new leadership that the government of Liberia notes with keen attention the request of the LICPA for more budgetary support to the Institution and will support its drive in making the LICPA a very professional entity.
In her remarks at the program, the Auditor General of Liberia Madam Yusador S. Gaye called on the Liberia Institute of Certified Public Accountants new administration to continue the good work of past leadership in adequately implementing its legislated duties in making sure that Liberia produces more professional Accountants that will be certified as CPA.
The program which was filled with pump and pageantry also brought together well known professional Accounting and Assurance institutions that are sponsors of LICPA and the Central Bank of Liberia as Corporate sponsor and was followed by sumptuous dinner.
