Senior Police Officers Indicted For Manslaughter

The grand jury for Montserrado County has indicted six senior officers of the Liberia National Police (LNP) on allegation of manslaughter after beating one Mohammed Jalloh to death.

Those indicted and expected to face trial at Criminal Court “A” at the Temple of Justice during the August, 2015 Term of Court include, Chief Inspector David L Kennedy, Inspector Julius O. Myers, Sgt. Edward B.   B. Hoff, Sgt. Otis T. Ross, Ptr. J. Rudolph B. Clinton and Ptr. Wilbur Weowon.

Manslaughter which is second degree felony is in violation of 4 Liberian Code of Law Revised, Title 26, section 14.1 (a) and 4LCLR, Title 26, section 50.5, and 51.3 , Title 26, 4LCLR , 2.2 (a) and (b).

The indictment alleged that on September 22, 2014, the within named defendants in the employ of the Liberia National Police (LNP), with criminal minds and intents, knowingly, willfully and intentionally committed the crime of Manslaughter.

The indictment stated that the defendants, who were assigned at the ELWA Junction, charged with the responsibility to protect life and property, allegedly took sticks, planks and batons, jumped on the deceased and beat him.

The indictment indicated that as a result of the acts of the defendants the deceased fell on the ground unconscious and bled profusely and later demised.
