Police Arrest Man For Economic Crime
A 39-year-old man, James Roberts, has been arrested and charged with multiple crimes, including Economic Sabotage, Forgery and Theft of Property.
Police said the suspect was arrested based on a complaint filed by Mrs. P. BlohSayeh, Director General at the Center for National Documentation and Records Agency (CNDRA).
Madam Sayeh told police that on July 1, 2015, a gentleman identified as Soko S. Sirleaf took a marriage certificate with number 0-0767-15. She said the certificate which bore the name of Joseph Dandy and Meg Lousia Welsh was sent to the CNDRA for processing.
She said upon presentation of the marriage certificate to the CNDRA, authorities at the center detected that the document was fake.
Madam Sayeh informed investigators that during an interview with Sirleaf, he informed her that he obtained the certificate from James Roberts after paying him US$80.00.
The police said the defendant’s action has sabotaged the revenue collection of the Government of Liberia and undermines the integrity of the legal instrument.
During preliminary investigation with defendant Roberts, he denied the allegation levied against him, according to the police.
