Donor countries and development partners have pledged to remain engaged with the three worst-affected Mano River Union (MRU) countries of Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea in ending the Ebola outbreak and to help them recover. According to a dispatch from the Permanent Mission of Liberia to the United Nations, the commitments were made Friday during the United Nations-sponsored International Conference on Ebola recovery.
The release indicated that the global community promised to work with the three countries in upgrading their health services and infrastructure, and to enable the countries transition from treatment to prevention, while ensuring that they keep pace with their various development initiatives.
The International Conference on Ebola Recovery was convened at the Headquarters of the United Nations in New York based on the initiative of UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon.
The purpose of the meeting was to rally international support and resources to enable the ongoing fight against the Ebola outbreak which has ravaged the Mano River Union countries and stalled their socio-economic development, the dispatch noted./LINA
