Former President of the ECOWAS Commission Dr. Mohammed Ibn Chambas is expected in Liberia and will serve as the Keynote Speaker at a one day international symposium on Democratic Governance and Development in Africa and their Challenges held in honor of Former Interim President Professor Dr. Amos C. Sawyer today at the Monrovia City Hall.
Dr. Mohamed Ibn Chambas who worked tirelessly to help restore peace during the Interim Government and several transitional governments is currently the Special Representative of the UN Secretary General in West Africa.
According to the Convener of the Symposium River Gee Senator Conmany B. Wesseh, other guests speakers invited include one of Nigeria’s and Africa’s leading Political Scientist Dr. Adele Jinadu, Professor of Political Science University of Lagos along with His Honor Justice Kabineh J’anneh who will all deliver papers at the symposium under the theme…
In furtherance of its appreciation to Dr. Amos Sawyer who has on numerous occasions headed the ECOWAS Elections Observation Missions in the sub region amongst the many roles he has played to foster peace and democracy in the sub region, the ECOWAS Commissioner for Political Affairs, HE Madam Salamatu Husseini Suleiman is also expected in Liberia for the occasion.
Her Excellency the President of Liberia is also expected to grace the occasion with her presence and will make special remarks during the opening of the symposium on Thursday morning.
The events which will include a day of intellectual exchange of ideas on the Governances Challenges in Africa with a focus on West Africa and Liberia is also expected to bring together an array individuals from government, our academic institutions, civil society and the private sector. Also expected to attend are political leaders and a range of opinion leaders in public and private spheres and individuals who at various times worked with or have been otherwise associated with Dr. Sawyer.
It can be recalled that several events have been held over the last two weeks to honor Dr. Amos Sawyer for the milestone at 70 years while reflecting on his intellectual, political and governance experience in Liberia, West Africa and the African Continent at large.
Recently the Nigerian Ambassador to Liberia, HE Chigozie Obi-Nnadozie also hosted an elaborate dinner befitting his service to the promotion of peace and exceptional cordiality between Liberia and Nigeria over the years and with the holding of the historic elections in Nigeria where Prof. Dr. Sawyer led the AU Observer mission.
Governance Commission, the St Stephen Church, Family and political friends have over the last two weeks joined various levels of activities to celebrate the life of one of Liberia’s foremost political scientist and great intellectual.
Meanwhile the program is expected to be carried live on radio and television simultaneously making use of the new equipment and technology of the renaissance communication incorporated owners of truth FM and Real Tv according to Mr. Musa Hassan Bility.
Mr. Bility who is one of the organizers said given the important dignitaries both local and international and the intellectual exchange quality, the wider community of Liberians would be better served with direct broadcast on both TV and radio to be a part of this commemorative international symposium.
