EU Turn Over 10 Vehicles To Gov’t

In an effort to boost the decentralization program in Liberia, the European Union (EU) through the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has donated ten vehicles to the Government of Liberia through the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The donation of the vehicles is a demonstrated commitment on the part of the EU. The vehicles valued over US$183,000 were donated to enhance the decentralization process and equip local authorities in rural Liberia.
Making the presentation, the head of the European Union Delegation to Liberia, Madam Tiina Intelmann said the donation is intended to support the decentralization program in the country. She added that EU is committed to supporting the decentralization process in the country.
Also speaking during the donation exercise, the Deputy Country Director of United Nations Development Programmes, Mr. Cleophas Torori said decentralization process is very essential to promoting the decentralization program. He added that the donation of the vehicles came at the right time adding that the decentralization process will also empower those in the rural areas.
At the same time, Mr. Torori has lauded the European Union for the donation to the Liberian Government which he said will make significant impact in the country.
Receiving the donation on behalf of the Government of Liberia, the Deputy Minister for Administration at the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Mr. Varney Sirleaf said the vehicles will be used for the intended purpose. Mr. Sirleaf praised EU for its significant role in the development of Liberia.
He then urged some County Superintendents who received the vehicles to use them for the intended purpose adding that decentralization is very necessary to national development.
