President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has arrived in New York, U.S.A. after a successful trip to Brussels, Belgium where she participated in a High-Level Ebola Conference held under the auspices of the European Union.
According to a Dispatch from New York, President Sirleaf, who arrived early this morning, will address the UN High-Level Thematic Debate on “Advancing Gender Equality and Empowerment of Women and Girls for a Transformative Post-2015 Development Agenda,” later today.
The program will also commemorate the anniversary of the International Women’s Day, under the slogan: “Empower women, Empower humanity. Picture it.”
Following the official ceremony, President Sirleaf will chair an interactive panel on the theme: “Women Economic and Political Empowerment, including access to decent work, and control over economic and productive resources and active participation in governance and decision making.”
Today President Sirleaf is expected to attend the launch of “No Ceiling Full Participation Report on Women’s Progress,” hosted by Hilary Clinton and Melinda Gates. President Sirleaf will serve as Guest Speaker at this event.
Additionally, President Sirleaf will deliver the Keynote Address at the UN Women pinnacle celebration of the historic landmark of the Beijing Conference which set a roadmap for women’s equality and empowerment globally.
