China Vows To Help In Post-Ebola Recovery

The Ambassador of the Peoples’ Republic of China to Liberia, ZangYue, has announced China’s commitment to contribute meaningfully to Liberia’s post Ebola recovery program especially in medical assistance.

The Chinese Ambassador noted that China will be sending medical personnel to Liberia to help in this regard coupled with assistance to refurbish Liberia’s health delivery system.

Ambassador Yue said doctors who will be sent to Liberia will also assist in the training of medical personnel while playing a pivotal role in revamping the overwhelmed Liberian Health sector as a result of the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD).

Speaking to journalists at last Friday’s celebration the Peoples’ Liberation Army (PLA) Medical Team to Liberia’s Spring Festivals, Ambassador Yue expressed gratitude to the Government and People of Liberia for their acknowledgement through President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf of the Chinese Spring Festival (Chinese New Year) which is being celebrated some 4,713 years now.

Ambassador Yue commended UNMIL, the AFL, other international groupings and medical experts from the United States, Germany among others for attending the ceremony which he described as the most celebrated event in Chinese traditional event.

Also speaking at the occasion the commander of the PLA Medical team to Liberia ShaiQuing Long lauded the cordiality existing between his team and the people of Liberia and vowed to remain committed in the furtherance of the existing friendship.

He spoke of the Chinese Ebola Treatment Unit (ETU) commitment to continue the fight against Ebola as his center has produced more survivors.

For his part the head of the Incident Management Team and Assistant Minister of Health for Preventive Services, Mr. Tolbert Nyenswah, reminded Liberians to continue carrying out the preventive guidelines as provided by the Ministry of health because there are still few cases of Ebola in the country.

He lauded the Chinese Government and the international organizations and government for joining efforts with the Liberian Government in the fight against Ebola.

Mr. Nyenswah especially praised the PLA Medical team for its effort since coming into the country to join in fighting the Ebola virus.

Two Ebola survivors from the Chinese ETU also attended the Spring Festival and praised God and the PLA Medical team for taking good care of them when they were afflicted with the Ebola virus.
