Veep Boakai Donates To ECOWAS Citizens Union

In furtherance of the mutual relationship between the people of Liberia and citizens of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) in Liberia, the Vice President of Liberia, Ambassador Joseph N. Boakai, has donated 500 cartons of Tuna Fish, a high protein nutritional fish to the ECOWAS Citizens Union of Liberia (ECU).   The donation is part of the Vice President’s humanitarian gesture. Presenting the cartons of fish to the Presidents of the various ECOWAS Communities on Newport Street over the weekend, Yahaya E. Jalingo, Chairman of ECOWAS Citizens Union of Liberia (ECU) & President of the Naturalized Citizens Forum Liberia, disclosed that the Vice President donated the assorted items to him as head of the organization.

He said the VP Boakai’s gesture was unprecedented in the history of his union describing same as a gift from the VP’s heart and urged his colleagues to share the news of the donation by the Vice President.

On behalf of officials and members of his union, Mr. Jalingo expressed gratitude to President Sirleaf and Vice President Boakai as well as the people of Liberia for the cordial ties that exist among member states of ECOWAS.

In separate Remarks, Rev. Vincent Abuka, General Secretary, Nigerian Community & Descendants Union of Liberia (NCDUL) said they are highly appreciative of the gift from the Vice President. Rev. Abuka said the gesture is not surprising to him because he knows the donor’s character. “We will cherish this gift,” he added. Germain PE, President of Ivorian Community in Liberia (CIL) said Liberia is noted for being a friendly country and as such, he said for the Vice President to donate to the ECOWAS Citizens Union in Liberia was a clear reflection of the country’s nature.

For their part, E. Moses Darpoh, Acting President of the Ghanaian Community and Descendants Union in Liberiaexpressed delight over the donation by VP Boakai. “This is a clear indication that the ECU is highly recognized in Liberia,”he averred. Edith Okorieoji, Acting Chairlady of ECU & Mariama Barry, Vice Chairlady, and President of African Women Union also lauded VP Boakai for the donation adding that the gesture of the 500 cartons of Tuna fish to the ECU indeed came as a surprise.
