Dist. # 8 Residents Threaten To Sue Leader For Ebola Money

Residents of Electoral District Eight have vowed to drag their Representative Acarous Gray to court if he cannot give account of L$ 537,440.00 raised in the district to combat the deadly Ebola Virus Disease.

At the heights of the EVD, residents in the district said the virus claimed the lives of over 20 persons, a situation that prompted the residents together with Representative Gray to organize a District Ebola Task Force.

However, the residents said after successfully organizing and holding a fund raising rally that netted L$537,440.00 and Representative Gray demanded that the said fund be placed in his personal account and had since refused to give the money to the district or even given an account of how it was expended.

Accordingly, to pressure their Representative to give an account of the funds, the residents of the district have organized themselves to a pressure group named and styled the Concern Citizens Movement of District Eight headed by Mr. Stephen Y. Herron.

In a letter to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Alex Tyler, the residents said they have authorized the CONCERNED CITIZENS MOVEMENT, DISTRICT #8, Montserrado County, to act on behalf of the communities to summon Representative, Acarous Moses Gray asking him about their Ebola Funds that was collected by him, (Rep. Acarous Moses Gray) from the Superintendent of Montserrado County, Madam Florence Brandy.

The residents said the amount was L$300,000.00 and the funds raised by guests during the official launching of the District #8 Ebola Contact Tracing Taskforce on September 25, 2014 at G.W. Gibson Auditorium on Capital Bye-pass were all taken by Representative Gray.

The citizens said immediately after the official launch of the District #8 Ebola Contact Tracing Task Force on September 25, 204, all funds raised during the program were turned over to Rep. Acarous Moses Gray and since then, Rep. Gray has constantly refused to give account of the funds or report to the District on the usage of the Ebola Funds.

The residents said, “Therefore, we the chairpersons and stakeholders of District number 8 hereby affix our signatures in affirmation of support to the CONCERNED CITIZENS MOVEMENT (CCM) which shall constitute their legal and sufficient Authority to pursue Rep. Gray to account for the Ebola funds of District number Eight.

However, Representative Gray who appeared on the Truth Breakfast Show yesterday morning frowned on the residents for writing the House Speaker complaining about their Ebola Money.

Representative Gray said he had properly disbursed the money to various community chairpersons in District Number Eight and noted it was his last time speaking about the Ebola money.
