President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf will today deliver the State of the Nation Address to members of the 53rd Legislature in Joint Session at the Capitol Building.
The State of the Nation Address is in fulfillment of Article 58 of the Liberian 1986 Constitution.
“The President shall, on the fourth Working Monday in January of each year, present the administration’s legislative program for the ensuing session, and shall once a year report to the Legislature on the state of the Republic. In presenting the economic condition of the Republic the report shall cover expenditure as well as income.”
Members of the 53 Legislature presided by Speaker Alex Tyler, will assemble in the William R. Tolbert Jr. Joint Assembly Hall to receive the President as she outlines her legislative agenda to the Lawmakers.
This national convocation will bring together officials from the three branches, Doyen and Members of the Diplomatic Corps, International Partners, Chiefs and Elders, Political, Religious and Business Leaders.
According to the House Chief Clerk, Mildred Sayon, today’s ceremony begins at 2pm with the arrival of invited guests and the delivery of the President’s message at 4:00 PM.
This year annual message of President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf shall mark the tenth (10th) Oration to the Legislature since she ascended to the Presidency in 2006.
