As the fight against the deadly Ebola virus continues, several institutions and private individuals are continue to make donations to the government and NGOs spear heading the process.
One of the latest donations came from the National Women Commission of Liberia (NAWOCOL), a local Non Governmental Organization organized to seek welfare of women in the country.
Making the donation over the weekend at the newly furbish Island Clinic, the Chair Person of the Board Madam Lowpu Kandakai stress that her organization was here to help President Sirleaf in the fight against epidemic that is taking the lives of Liberians.
She noted that it is a time of National Emergency and she therefore call on Liberians to join the fight in order to wipe this virus out of Liberia.
“If you do not have anything good to say about somebody, then shut up”, calling on people who are not helping to fight the deadly virus out Liberia to stay away from negative criticism; stating that it could only help to prolong the fight against an enemy is unseen.
Madam Kandakai calls on Liberians to nationalistic and forget about the negative politicking which is not helpful to the survival of the country.
She therefore warns Liberians that freedom of speech and of the press does not mean that one should criticize even when there are some positive things being done.
“We should use the freedom of expression given to constructively engage the government, but not to just sit to criticized”, she emphasized.
The Board Chair also call on Liberians to take the Ebola outbreak a serious national crisis; that all citizens and those living within the borders of Liberia to join the fight to eradicate ebola out of Liberia.
She further said people should observe all of the preventive measures being announce by the government and health practitioners including hand washing, avoid shaking hands, avoid touching sick suspected ebola patients and eating dead animals and bats; ‘in doing this we can minimize and flush the virus out of Liberia”, she said.
Madam Kandakai said one her organization objectives is to keep women healthy and provide them skills in various disciplines that will make meaningful in society.
According to her, 25 mattresses and several buckets and sanitizing items were donated to both Island Clinic and the Women Training center in Kakata, Margibi County.
She puts the cost of the donated items to something around US$2,000.
In conclusion, Madam Kandakai commended President Sirleaf for her tireless work for the nation and encourage her to be steadfast in her discharging her national duties. She also call on all Liberians to the sensitization messages to their various communities.
Receiving the items, the Island Clinic administrators thanks the NOWCOL for buttressing government’s effort in the fight against Ebola and call on others to follow suit.
