Absence of Solicitor, Sheriff Hurts Mano River Court
The Clerk of the Mano River Magisterial Court in Porkpa District, Grand Cape Mount County, Charles Watson, says the lack of a City Solicitor and Sherriff is hampering the smooth operation of the court.
Mr. Watson disclosed recently that the court cannot prepare writs, because it is only the Sheriff who serves the writ in accordance with the law.
He also said that there is no detention center in the district, noting that as a result, persons convicted by the court are sometimes sent to the police withholding cell or the capital city, Robertsport for proper redress.
Mr. Watson added that due to the lack of adequate security in the area, criminals who are taken to the court constantly threaten the lives of the Magistrate and court officers.
He said recently three persons arrested by the police and taken to the court on charges of criminal facilitation of counterfeiting, walked away from the court and threatened to deal with the Magistrate and other officers and attributed this defiant act to the lack of a detention center.
