PUL President Emeritus Opens Up On Ellen’s US$100,000 Gift

By C. Winnie Saywah-Jimmy

The president emeritus of the Press Union of Liberia (PUL), Peter Quaqua has disproved what he terms as misleading assertions made by a commissioner of the Liberia Anti Corruption Commission (LACC), then Director of the Catholic Justice and Peace Commission (JPC), Augustine Toe.

Cllr. Toe’s May 13 statement captured on the Truth Breakfast Show to which Mr. Quaqua now rebuts stated that “the PUL went to court to cancel the contract but its lawyer was sluggish and did not file a response to its returns of the contractor.”

Mr. Quaqua said Cllr. Toe’s statement is meant to mislead the public about the case while it was before the Civil Law Court and requests that the lawyer clarifies how he and his JPC colleagues suddenly turned out to be corporate lawyers for the PUL and or if it was ethical for them to have represented the interest of the contractor and the Union at the same time.

Outlining what he considered facts to ponder, Mr. Quaqua said Cllr. Toe needs to tell the whole truth and wondered if he (Toe) was trying to influence public opinion or defend the agreement he helped to put together.
