NEC Wants Public Participation In VR Exhibition
A Commissioner of the National Elections Commission (NEC) says the Exhibition of the Provisional Voter Roll is important to the process of ensuring the cleanliness of the Voter Roll of Liberia. Commissioner Samuel Joe said a clean voter roll will ensure that only Liberians who are eligible will participate in the ensuing October 14 Special Senatorial Election.
Commissioner Joe encouraged all Liberians to turn out at the 1780 Voter Registration centers across the country during the next five days to participate in the Exhibition of the Provisional Voter Roll which started on Monday.
Commissioner Joe made the assertions on Monday during the conduct of a massive public awareness Campaign on the start of the Exhibition Exercise of the Provisional Voter Roll of the country.
The campaign was conducted throughout the principal streets of Monrovia and Paynesville Cities.
More than one hundred employees of the Commission participated in the exercise which was conducted on Broad Street, Capitol Hill, Freeport, Battery Factory, New Georgia Junction, Chicken Soup Factory, 72nd Junction, Old Road Public Market and other locations across the cities.
During the campaign, personnel of the Commission distributed posters, fliers, and vehicle bumper stickers to members of the public.
The Exhibition Exercise which started on Monday, April 28, will end on Friday, May 2.
More than three thousand personnel vetted and trained by the Commission are conducting the exhibition exercise at the 1780 Voter Registration centers across the country.
Exhibition of the Provisional Voter Roll is in consonance with Sub-Chapter C, Section 3.11 of the New Elections Law of 1986 and the Key Dates of the 2014 Special Senatorial Election released by the Commission last year.
The entire Voter Roll is being displayed at the 1780 Voter Registration Centers across the country to enable citizens, including new registrants, to make Claims and Objections where necessary as well as make corrections to their personal data.
Claims and objections to a name on the Voter Roll may include objection to the registration of a person either because the registrant is a non-Liberian citizen or had not attained the age of 18 years and above.
