The Press Union of Liberia has welcomed the election of its former President Peter Quaqua as President of the West African Journalists Association (WAJA).
Mr. Quaqua won the elections this evening at the 8th Ordinary Congress of the Association in Abuja, Nigeria.
He succeeds Mr. Mohammed Garba from Nigeria, who was recently elected President of the Federation of African Journalists.
PUL President Abdullai Kamara says the victory of Mr. Quaqua is a universal affirmation of the level of quality leadership he provided in Liberia, and would herald a firm approach to supporting freedom of expression across West Africa.
As a mark of solidarity to Mr. Quaqua, all members of the Press Union of Liberia have been requested to turn out at the James Spriggs Payne Airport on Sunday evening at 4:30 to give Mr. Quaqua and PUL Vice President Jallah Grayfield a rousing welcome.
Prior to his election as President of the WAJA, Mr. Quaqua served as Treasurer.
