Finance Minister, Deputies, Others Face Contempt Hearing Today

Finance Minister, Amara Konneh and all of his deputies as well as the Acting Comptroller- General have been summoned by the Honorable Supreme Court of Liberia.

In a release issued this evening, Mr. Konneh, his deputies and the Acting Comptroller-General, have been instructed to appear before the Full Bench of the Honorable Supreme Court of Liberia on Capitol Hill at 9:00 A.M., to show cause, if any, why they cannot be held in contempt for arbitrarily reducing the 2013/2014 budget of the judiciary in total violation of the judiciary and Financial Autonomy Act.

Meanwhile, Mr. Konneh and his officials have been advised to appear along with their lawyers as they will be required to comment on their reported deliberate refusal to make available 10% (ten percent) of the cost for the implementation of the New Jury law, which action has resulted to the none- application and enforcement of the law.
