For the first time participating in the Intra-Governmental Tournament, the kickball, volleyball and soccer teams of the Umbrella Sports Association (UMSA) of the National Social Security and Welfare Corporation (NASSCORP), Tuesday won all of their opening matches at the Samuel Kanyon Sports Complex in Paynesville.
UMSA defeated the Monrovia City Corporation (MCC), with kickball score of 10-2 innings, volleyball, 25-9 points; while the soccer match ended 2-1.
The kickball game started with the MCC girls making headway, but with the long-experienced team that NASSCORP had, they overtook the MCC girls and became victorious. Currently, NASSCORP is the double champions of the kickball division of the Intra-Governmental Tournament.
Being motivated by the result from the kickball match, the volleyball team zealously inflicted defeat on the boys of the MCC. With the splendid performance of NASSCORP, all eyes are on the team to end the three years’ records held by the Ministry of Finance in the volleyball division of the tournament.
The victory of UMSA was climaxed with the soccer team defeating the boys of MCC 2-1. Randall Sirleaf opened the deadlock in the 30th minute through a Sie Anderson passed. But MCC cleverly equalized in the 41st minute.
With the score at 1-1, both teams mounted pressure for a winner, but it was NASSCORP who got the winner through Fahn Anderson, whose brilliant kick in the 71st minute of the game passed the MCC goalkeeper, completing the treble defeat on the Monrovia City Corporation (MCC).
