The quarter final of the much-talked about County Meet being held in Monrovia is gaining momentum at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex with Nimba County becoming the first victorious team.
Yesterday in the first game of the day, Nimba County defeated the stubborn Grand Kru County 2-1 thus eliminating the Kru boys from the prestigious completion. Grand Kru began the game with some wonderful display of modern football creating several chances against the Mountain boys of Nimba County.
Despite the many efforts and chances created by Grand Kru County, it was Nimba County who got the opener of the game after 37 minutes through Sam Jackson. The goal was scored when a free kick was awarded to Nimba County in the first half. The first half of the game ended with a 1-0 lead in favor of Nimba County.
Nimba County got the second goal midway the second half of the game through Prince Chappy in the 68th minutes despite good football display by Grand Kru County. However, the Kru boys managed to pull back a consolidating goal with 20 minutes to stoppage time when Nimba’s Nicholas Swen scored his own goal.
In the second game of the day, Grand Gedeh County and Lofa County were at neck-to-neck. The full ninety minutes ended 0-0. Up to press time, the two teams were going for extra time to determine the winner of the game.
Earlier, in kickball, game one saw Gbapolu County beating Grand Kru 4 homes to three. In game two, Margibi County trashed Montserrado County 9 to 4 homes. The County Meet continues at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex in Paynesville today with several exciting matches.
