Amb. Collins Secures Educational Materials, Books For Liberian Schools

Goodwill Ambassador Alpha Collins has secured some 10,000 books and educational materials for Liberian schools.

According to Ambassador Collins, the donation was made by schools, organizations and individuals in Sheffield, the United Kingdom. He said the groups and individuals donated 10,000 books on numeracy and literacy, along with educational materials to Action Love Liberia for schools on the Old Road.

On November 29, 2013, Goodwill Ambassador Alpha Bird Collins met with President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf on her presidential jet from Brussels to Monrovia at which time he divulged to the President that some schools, organizations and individuals in Sheffield, the United Kingdom have donated 10,000 books on numeracy and literacy, along with educational materials to Action Love Liberia for schools on the Old Road.

In response, President Sirleaf lauded Ambassador Collins and the individual organizations in the UK for helping to educate the Liberian people. “I trust that our people will seize the opportunity to learn how to read and write leading to empowerment,” Pres. Sirleaf said. She stated further, “I will be listening and watching to see what becomes of the books and educational materials.”

The Goodwill Ambassador, while in the country also called upon the office of the Vice President of Liberia, Joseph N. Boakai and informed him about the donated books and educational materials and added that the success of the ongoing project ALL Wedding Dresses which has been lending wedding dresses to Liberians at no cost to themselves and has been in existence since 2008 to present.

Also responding, Vice President Boakai encouraged Ambassador Collins to continue to work in the interest of the Liberian people adding that, “Good deeds are a blessing.” Amb. Collins is expected to pay a courtesy call on Mr. Musa Bility, President of Liberia Football Association (LFA) along with Mr. Alphonso Armah, Secretary General of LFA respectively.

According to a release, the Goodwill Ambassador will search to recruit four strikers, two midfielders and two defenders for the transfer window in January 2014.

At the same time, on a celebratory note, Rev. Louise Collins, wife of the ambassador along with children Oceantallah, Livimanjaro, Lioness and Jahudijah Collins have wished the President, Vice President, Speaker, Chief Justice, Cabinet Ministers and the Liberian people a Happy Christmas with a promising New Year 2014 via GOD’s blessing.

Amb. Collins disclosed that the books and educational materials are currently at the Freeport of Monrovia awaiting clearance from the Customs. The books and educational materials will be given to schools rather than individuals.

Meanwhile, Ambassador Collins has acknowledged the following donors and collaborators that the books and educational materials have arrived in Liberia. The individuals and groups include Firth Park Community College; King Edward VII School; Firs Hill Primary School; White Ways School; Hucklow Primary School; Lions of Doncaster.

Others are Mrs. Sylvia Swainson and family; St. Marie’s School; Friends of St. Cuthbert’s; Mothers’ Union of Sheffield; and Mr. and Mrs. Robert.
