WE-CARE Library Re-Dedicates The David Klooster Children's Room

The WE-CARE Library under the WE-CARE Foundation, a local non-governmental educational NGO on Tuesday, December 10, 2013 re-dedicated its children’s room in honor of the late Dr. David Klooster, professor of English at Hope University of the United States of America.

Welcoming an array of dignitaries, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of WE-CARE Foundation, Amb. M. Kronyahn Weefur urged stakeholders to support the work of the institution. His statement was follow by Mr. Pewu Subah also a member of the Board of WE-CARE, who spoke on the activities of the organization.

The Assistant Minister of Education Mr. Tokumboh E. Lawrence called on institutions and individuals to support the education of Liberian children, promising her ministry’s continuous collaborations with the WE-CARE family.

For his part, the Executive Director of the WE-CARE Foundation, Mr. T. Michael Weah, gave a brief history of the WE-CARE Library, which started as book chain during the heat of the Liberia crisis and how David Klooster’s Children Room is one of the many educational initiatives undertaken by the WE-CARE Foundation. He further noted that the foundation is doing everything to decentralize its programs to other parts of the country including the setting up of reading rooms in support of the National Reading Campaign.

The ribbon to the children room was cut by Mrs. Elizabeth Dempster, member of the Board of WE-CARE, and the official dedicatory prayer was given by Rev. Charlotte Kaicora. Also present at the dedication of the David Klooster Children Room were Hon. Dio Harris and Hon. Othello Gagah of the Ministry of Education, and representatives from CAP and the Right To Play.

WE-CARE Foundation is a local educational NGO that operates the WE-CARE Library, one of Liberia’s only public libraries. All of its services are free. The Foundation trains teachers, writers and illustrators to produce culturally relevant children books for Liberian schools, and also runs a vacation reading  program, Story Hour for Kids,  that teaches children how to read, create love for books, use the computers and play educational games.

The children’s room was established under the WE-CARE Library with support from the late Dr. David Klooster of Hope Church in the USA.
