LBA Observes Bankers’ Week

The Liberia Bankers Association (LBA), an umbrella organization of the nine commercial banks along with its chief regulator, Central Bank of Liberia (CBL), have launched a weeklong awareness drive in Monrovia and its environs.
The President of the Liberia Bankers Association (LBA) Mr. John B. S. Davies disclosed that the observance of LBA activities started on December 2 to December 6, 2013 and it will be celebrated under the theme: Ensuring Stability of the Financial Sector through Credit Culture Enhancement.
Mr. Davies noted that every year the bankers’ program is used to reflect on banking activities and take stock of lessons learnt to enable them plan future actions.
According to Mr. Davies, the ceremony is intended to create awareness of activities and functions of banks and their contribution to the Liberian economy as well as to appreciate the banking sector.
Mr. Davies told journalists that the activities will focus on the interaction with media and general public through talk shows, meeting with various stakeholders and sports tournament for staff of the various banks.
Meanwhile, Mr. Davies explained that the Liberia Bankers Association will also visit centers of disadvantaged persons at Group 77 and Antoinette Cheshire Home.
“Liberia Bankers Association will host a Gala Dinner and during the dinner, Executive Governor of Central Bank of Liberia, Dr. J. Mills Jones will serve as keynote speaker,” Mr. Davies said.
Meanwhile, the key activities of the Liberia Bankers Association for this week include: December 3, 2013 visit to Chief Justice and Associate Justices of the Supreme Court of Liberia; December 4, 2013 visit to President Pro-tempore of the Liberian Senate; December 5, 2013 Banking Symposium at the University of Liberia on the theme: Ensuring Stability of the Financial Sector through Credit Culture Enhancement and on December 6, 2013 will be the holding of a Bankers’ Anniversary Gala Dinner.
