Employees of the Liberia Electricity Corporation, who are working at the head office of LEC in West Point Community, have expressed profound regret for their workmate, Mr. Alfred Sayon, who was harmed by unknown individual/s around the main compound of the entity last week.
According to the employees, it was first of its kind for such a terrible thing to happen and they are afraid that it could happen to them too and are therefore calling on the Government of Liberia to help trace the perpetrator/s linked to such a diabolical act.
The Executive Director for Administration, Human Resource and Procurement at the Liberia Electricity Corporation, Mr. Varmunyah F. Sherif, disclosed that Mr. Alfred Sayon went to buy tea and bread outside of the LEC compound and while returning, he was called by his name by an unknown person; and when he (Alfred) turned around, the unidentified person came from his hiding place with a paint bucket containing acid. The assailant/s instantly splashed the acid straight into Alfred’s face thereby inflicting serious bodily harm to him.
Mr. Sherif said after the incident, the management of the Liberia Electricity Corporation rushed Alfred Sayon to John F.Kennedy Hospital for medical treatment but the next day, when he (Sherif) returned to the Hospital, he was simply told by the doctors that Mr. Alfred had given up the ghost.
“We have problem with power theft and 30% of what we generate cannot be accounted for because people illegally connect to our system but a team has been set up to go out and prevent the power theft,”Mr. Sherif explained.
Meanwhile Sherif has contacted the Police Boss, Col. Chris Massaquoi, to also help arrest, investigate and bring the perpetrator/s to justice.
