By Morrison O.G. Sayon
A man believed to be in his late 40s has allegedly slaughtered his wife, Nancy Jimmy for a bowl of rice in the Diggsville Township. Mr. Anthony Jimmy, affectionately known as Laba-Laba by his many friends and relatives, on Saturday afternoon allegedly killed his wife while the woman was dishing out the rice in their little kitchen in Diggsville, outside Monrovia.
Eye witnesses disclosed that Mr. Jimmy used a sharp instrument apparently a knife to stab his wife, Nancy from the back twice before attempting to escape the scene. Though no immediate information was released as to why Laba-Laba killed his wife, a lady in Bardnersville behind Area “F” disclosed that Jimmy’s action was premeditated.
According to the lady who preferred anonymity, prior to the incident, Mr. Jimmy met her and bought some fish from her and told her to hurry up as his knife wanted a blood. “He told me to make fast because his knife wanted some blood, and I don’t want you to waste time. I’m killing my wife today if she tampers with my food,” the lady quoted Laba-Laba as saying.
The lady said it was at that point that she immediately served him with the fish and later told some residents of Mr. Jimmy’s criminal plan before leaving the area. Many of those interviewed including the late Nancy’s sister said Mr. Jimmy had on several occasions threatened his wife to kill her but she usually ignored him.
Our information revealed that Jimmy is a former fighter of the defunct Independent National Patriotic Front of Liberia (INPFL) of then rebel leader, Prince Y. Johnson now senior Senator of Nimba County. The sister of the diseased, Martha said Mr. Jimmy is an alcoholic and a drug addict who usually beat his wife Nancy unmercifully whenever he was intoxicated.
Many who visited the scene during the incident disclosed that Nancy was killed while dishing out the rice while the Cassava leaf soup was still on the fire. Mr. Jimmy who was picked up by some UNMIL police could not give any reason for his action as he was heavily guarded by the UNMIL officers.
Laba-Laba was spotted after killing his wife by a pehn-pehn rider who immediately contacted the Diggsville Police Depo and Jimmy was then arrested while attempting to flee the scene.
