Frontpage Editor To Go To ECOWAS Court…Kofi Woods Joins Legal Team
Front Page Africa’s Publisher, Rodney D. Sieh has been arrested in Monrovia by the Sheriff of the Civil Law Court at the Temple of Justice.
Mr. Sieh was arrested yesterday for failing to pay US$1.6 million after losing a libel case to former Agriculture Minister, Dr. Christopher Toe.
At the court yesterday several journalists including Publishers and Editors converged at the Temple of Justice when they learnt that Mr. Rodney Sieh was to be sent to the Monrovia Central Prison for failing to pay the US$1.6 million in the libel case he lost at the Supreme Court.
Adding to Sieh’s Defense Counsel is former Public Works Minister, Atty. Samuel Kofi Woods. Upon his clients request Atty. Woods wrote the court instructing it that he would be working along with Renowned lawyer Pearl Brown Bull to seek an appeal at the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Court of Appeals which has jurisdiction to hear individual complaints of alleged human rights violations.
Lawyers representing the legal interest of Mr. Sieh filed an injunction yesterday thus allowing him to be released by the court to his lawyer until today at 4:00p.m., where it is expected that Mr. Sieh would be sent to the Monrovia Central Prison.
A lower court in 2010 found the paper guilty of libeling Toe when it said the paper failed to substantiate its claims that the then Minister diverted millions of dollars intended to fight army worms infestation in two regions of Liberia.
Ruling into the case was given last month at the Supreme Court where Mr. Sieh took the case. The high court ruled that the paper should pay the fine. Last Friday a lower Judge cleared the way for Toe’s lawyers to begin enforcing the judgment.
