NTAL Begins National Convention In Kakata
In keeping with the Constitution mandate of the National Teachers Association of Liberia (NTAL) to hold a National Delegates Convention after every four (4) years, the NTAL yesterday began it national convention.
The NTAL Convention which is expected to run from Sunday July 28th to August 2 2013 began its 64th National Delegates Convention this year in Kakata, with the Margibi County Branch of the National Teachers Association. Margibi County was selected in 2009 as the next venue for the associations’ National Convention.
This years’ convention is being held under the theme, “Transforming the Nation through Quality education” and it is expected to bring together 190 delegates from the fifteen (15) local branches of NTAL across the country.
The National Delegates Convention is the highest decision making body of the association. President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf who is the Guest of Honor at the Convention was expected to deliver the opening address on July 30, 2013 while the Deputy Secretary General of Education International (El) will deliver the Keynote address for the Convention.
According to a NTAL release the President of the National Teachers association (NTAL) Rev. Ellen Fartu Varfley will make special statement for the association and that will be followed by the Minister of Education Etmonia David Tarpeh with special remarks.
The NTAL convention will also be graced by the presence of some international guests from Education International (El) with headquarters in Brussels, Demark, Sweden, Norway, Tanzanian, Botswana, Ghana, Sierra Leone and the National Education Association of America (NEA) based in the United States.
Also expected to attend the convention are an array of government officials, members of the Legislature, the business community, members of the Diplomatic Corp, and other personalities in the community.
During the four days sitting, the delegates will be deliberating on the past activities of the association, the achievements, challenges and adopt new plan for the next four years. The delegates will receive the quadrennial report from 2009 to 2013, launch the Credit Cooperative Society of NTAL, the Auditors’ financial Report from 2009 to 2013, the presentation of the 2013 to 2017 budget and the strategic plan of Action for 2013 to 2017.
The delegates will also listen to the briefing from the Secure Risk Insurance Company and the social Security and welfare Corporation(NASSCORP) and the election of a new corps of officers for the next four year will be held during the convention. A women Caucus meeting will also be held during the convention.
