The 3rd Annual Golden Image Award held over the weekend had a theme that seeks to stop the inhumane act of rape throughout the country. Serving as guest speaker for the program, Bong County Senator, Jewel Howard Taylor called on all Liberians to stand up as one voice to end rape in the country.
Senator Taylor recalled that many of the rape cases reported throughout the country involve children as young as nine months old.
This year’s award gave the coveted 18 carat gold award in County, National and International levels to seventeen awardees who were selected by the Golden Image Award National Secretariat and their contributions to humanity.
International recipients of the award included Jerry Rawlings of Ghana, Dr. Toga McIntosh from ECOWAS; Olusegun Obasanjo from Nigeria; Abdulsalami Abubakar from Nigeria; The Republic of Guinea; and Dr. Christiana A.M. Thorpe of Sierra Leone. Depeng Wang from China and Assistant Secretary of State and former U.S. Ambassador Linda Thomas Greenfield were awarded awards during the program.
National Awardees that walked away with Golden Image Awards were Ambassador George Wallace, Ophelia Hoff Saytumah, Eugenia Sandy and Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity Inc.
The Golden Image Award is in honor of Liberia’s and Africa’s first female Head of State, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.
