Liberia To Participate In “US Open”…Contestants Promised Laurels

Reports from the United States say two Liberian Kids, Lasaana Weh and Mohammed Buslter have been invited to take part in the US Open in the United States of America from July 2nd to the 6th 2013.

According to the reports, the two kids’ talents have caught the eyes of many table tennis lovers by local and international coaches who have visited Liberia to explore avenue of tracking good and talented players of the tennis games for possible supports and sponsorship.

Explaining to journalists at the Liberia Table Tennis Federation Office on Broad Street yesterday, Wasiu Awobajo said there are many young talented Liberians in the country that need at least some supports to be developed.

Wasiu said although the Government of Liberia has been providing some cash assistance to the Tennis Federation but there needs more financial assistance that will improve the games and bring out the best talents that Liberia will need to develop the youths.

According to Wasiu, he and the President of the Liberia Table Tennis Federation Amos Korvah, from May 22nd and 26th attended the World Tennis Championship in France at which time many things were discussed about key developments in the development of table tennis and the plight of each member countries that were addressed.

Wasiu Awobajo said due to major advocacy and plees to other corporate entities, foreign missions, individuals and the Government of Liberia, at least there has been some assistance being made to develop the game.

He also thanked NOCAL for some financial assistance and the World Governing Body for Tennis the World Table Tennis Federation for providing six tables each costing US800.00 with balls and rackets.

Wasiu also thanked the Deputy Youth and Sports Minister, Danilius Saybe who has promised to liaise with his boss to increase the current Liberia Table Tennis Federation budget from USD5, 000 to USD15, 000.
