A High Power Liberia National Police delegation led by the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Rose E. Stryker, recently paid a 10-day visit to Minnesota and Milwaukee from April 30 to May 7, 2013 at the invitation of Chief Michael Davies of the Brooklyn Park Police Department.
The visit was made possible through the initiative of the Vice President of Liberia, Ambassador Joseph N. Boakai, in collaboration with Pastor Alexander Collins of Brooklyn Park and Lead Pastor of Redeemed Life Church International of Mount View.
The Deputy Inspector General served as proxy for the Inspector General of Police, C. Clarence Massaquoi who was unable to make the trip due to pressing National Security duties.
According to a release from the LNP, members of the LNP Delegation included the Commissioner of Police for Administration, Phil Tougbay; the Office Chief of Staff/Senior Police Advisor to the Inspector General, Edwin V. Hoff, I and Officer Irene Vaye of the Kakata Police Detail assigned with the Women and Children Unit.
Purpose of the visit was to explore the possibility of establishing collaborative relationships with several US Police Chiefs in the Twin Cities of Minnesota, especially Brooklyn Park Police Chief Michael Davies whose invitation brought the delegation to the US.
The visit was also, intended to tell the LNP “Story” with the intent to generate possible interest and attract needed assistance, specifically in the areas of Training opportunities and Logistics for the Organization.
The Team met and held discussions with Chief Michael Davies and Principal Assistants of Brooklyn Park Police Department; Janee Harteau and principal Deputies of Hennipen Police Department; Thomas Smith of St. Paul Police Department; and Chief Kevin Benner of Brooklyn Center Police Department.
The Delegation was especially privileged to attend the Police Executive Research Forum, PERF which was held in Milwaukee, Wisconsin from May 2 – 3, 2013.
The LNP Head of Delegation, Deputy Inspector General Rose Stryker was afforded the privilege of addressing the Forum which had in attendance more than 250 Chiefs of Police from the United States and Canada.
According to the LNP release, Madam Stryker effectively articulated some major challenges and achievements of the LNP, including the ongoing transitioning exercise of the United Nations Mission in Liberia(UNMIL).
The visit was climaxed with a meeting between Mr. Dave Pecchia, Executive Director of the Minnesota Chiefs of Police Association and a representative from the Upper Midwest Community and the LNP Delegation.
Meanwhile, the delegation has extended its deepest thanks and appreciation on behalf of Inspector General Massaquoi to Chief Michael Davies and Pastor Alexander Collins and his Team from the Brooklyn Park – Kakata Sister City Committee for organizing the visit.
The delegation also extended its thanks and appreciation to Chuck Wexler, Executive Director of PERF for the very warm reception and the promise made to seek assistance for the LNP, as well as Chiefs Janee Harteau, Tom Smith and Kevin Benner, together with Dave Pecchia, Executive Director of the Minnesota Chiefs of Police Association for making the delegation visit a resounding success, the release signed by Police Spokesman Sam Collins Concluded.
