An early morning fire yesterday killed five members of a family in Tweh Farm on the Bushrod Island. Though the cause of the incident is yet to be established, the Deputy Chief of Operations of the Liberia National Police, Patrick Sugue disclosed that the National Fire Service and the Liberia Petroleum Refinery Company could not extinguish the fire in spite of all their frantic efforts.
According to eye witnesses, who were on the spot at the time the house was ablaze burst the wall to help save lives but the fire was fierce to contend with.
According to Mr. Sugue the crowd fought furtively but was overpowered by the raging fire and those persons who were in the concrete house were not rescued.
A lady identified as Oretha Koffa, with her three children along with another man died in the house.
An eye witness also told our reporter that at the time the fire occurred in the house, people were crying for help and one of the girls who was in the house, quickly sent the key outside to the crowd to open the iron door and after receiving the key, the crowd used all means to open it but to no avail.
