MoPEA Breaks Ground For NAO Modern Office

The program was attended by high level officials from the European Union, thMore than half a million United States Dollars ground breaking ceremony yesterday, May 9, 2013 took place at the Ministry of Planning and Economic Affairs-MoPEA.

According to the Master of Ceremony, Martus W. Bangalu who is the Programme Officer for Social Sector, the project is a joint project sponsored by the European Union and the Government of Liberia which will house officers of the National Authorizing Officers. She congratulated the European Union and the Government of Liberia for the joint partnership agreement.

For his part the Head of Delegation, Ambassador of the European Union Attilio PACIFICI gave an overview of the project. According to Ambassador PACIFICI, he was pleased to be a part of the program because he said that the European Union yesterday celebrated its 63rd Anniversary since 1950 and caution the Construction Company that is constructing the New Office of the National Authorizing Officer’s Officer to stick to their promise of completing the project in the eight months period that they gave to complete the construction work.

Also speaking the Deputy Minister for Administration at the Planning Ministry Dr. Marcus Dahn thanked the European Union for the funds to erect the Offices of the National Authorizing Officers and said that it was in the right direction since the new office building will provide enough sitting capacities for workers of the NAO.

Deputy Planning Minister, Marcus Dahn, told the European Union Delegation of his Ministry’s willingness to properly implement the project professionally as desired by their partners, the European Union.

“He said on behalf of the Ministry of Planning and Economic Affairs, I Want to thank the European Union for its continuous supports towards our development process and as you already know, several years ago we lost the powers of the National Authorizing Officer due to inadequate institutional and human capacity to perform the tasks associated with the office. Hence, through the efforts this government, and under the direction of the Planning Ministry’s authorities, we were able to reorganize the NAO Office and then began to build the capacity of the staffs to perform the functions required of them,” Minister Dahn stated.

Also speaking at the program, the Deputy National Authorizing Officer, Mr. Alvin E. Attah joined his Boss in thanking the European Union and Government of Liberia for supporting the project and further said that the Office Complex will host the staffs of the National Authorizing Office and most probably staffs of the Liberian Development Alliance of which the NAO will soon officially be a part of.

He said the project is estimated at US$573,853.01 which is solely funded by the European Union and it will be executed within nine months beginning yesterday, but said that the contractors have assured them that the construction work will be completed in the given period of 8-9 months and also thanked the European Union for working with them through the process to ensure that the EDF procurement procedure, was not too different from national rules.e Swedish Embassy, the Ministry of Planning and Economic Affairs and host of journalists.
