Daniel Chea Takes Early Lead In Bassa By-Election…NEC Provisional Result Reveals

Provisional results of the much-publicized Grand Bassa County Senatorial By-election have been released by the National Elections Commission (NEC).

Yesterday, the National Elections Commission (NEC) released provisional results of the May 7 Senatorial By-Election of Grand Bassa County from 183 polling places representing 54.46 percent of the total 336 polling places.

Addressing a news conference on Wednesday, NEC Chairman, Jerome George Korkoya disclosed that from 183 polling places or 54.46% of the total 336 polling places in the county have reported.

According to the provisional result, Daniel Lymus Chea, an Independent candidate is slightly in the lead with 7,566, representing 44.2 percent votes, while Nyonblee  Karnga-Lawrence of the Liberty Party obtained 6,638 amounting to38.8 percent.

T. Wah Bedell of the National Patriotic Party obtained 605 representing 3.5 percent votes, while Jonathan Kaipay of the Unity Party trailed with 2,303 amounting to 13.5%votes.

At the press conference, Chairman Korkoya commended the Government of Liberia; all poll workers, observer groups, the media, the Liberia National Police and partners of the Commission for their supportive role which resulted to the successful conduct of the By-Election.

The total valid vote was recorded at 17,111; total invalid 603 and total votes 17,714.

Tallying of results of the By Election is still continuing at the Elections Magisterial Office in Buchanan City.

Meanwhile, the National Elections Commission (NEC) has announced that final results of the Senatorial By-Election will be announced at a ceremony to be held at the Fair Ground Unification Pavilion in Buchanan City today, May 9.

According to Chairman Korkoya, certification of the winner of the By-Election will take place following the announcement of the final results on Thursday.
