A 9-month old little Jallah Akoiwala has successfully undergone surgery at the New Orleans Children’s Hospital in the City of Louisiana, USA. Jallah is among several kids who were diagnosed by Dr. Camanor, a pediatrician at the JFK Hospital of having heart disorder that would require corrective surgery available only outside of Liberia.
Thanks to the collective efforts of Doctors Camanor and Shankar, as well as support received from Dr. Kenneth Hasson of USAID arrived in the form of assistance from the U.S. based charity, HeartGift International, which agreed to sponsor the cost of surgery for Jallah and three additional Liberian children with similar heart defects. The cost of each surgery and postoperative care averages about US $300,000.00.
With the generous support of Brussels Airlines, which offered two free round trip tickets for the patient and his mother, little Jallah has received a new breath of life.
He was expected to return with his mother to Monrovia on the 8th of May aboard Brussels Airlines from New York, healthy.
The management of the JFK would like to extend its thanks and appreciation to all those who made this a success story and applauds the efforts of the doctors and all sponsors involved.
