Fire outbreak in Monrovia has again caused a serious tragedy with at least one person reportedly dead and several feared dead after a building was gutted last night in the Jos Hansen, Happy Home community at Water Side, Monrovia.
According to eyewitnesses, the fire started at about 6:45p.m. on Wednesday following a reported shock circuit that resulted to the outbreak of the unquenchable fire. The Witnesses further narrated that before the fire gutted the building; several persons including employees of the entity were seen working while some were already retiring from work.
Upon arrival on the scene, our reporter saw several residents of the community moving helter-skelter in search of their relatives and friends who they claimed were either working with the Fouani Brothers or helping to extinguish the fire. Some of the witnesses also disclosed that they have not seen their relatives they claimed were working in the building.
With the intervention of the Liberia National Fire Service, the fire fighters from the Liberia Petroleum Refining Company (LPRC), the fire did not last for long but the entire building was razed to its foundation with some people likely entrapped.
Officers of the Liberia National Police (LNP) especially the Emergency Response Unit (ERU) and the Police Support Unit (PSU) were quickly deployed on the scene to safeguard the movement of other community dwellers. The total number of casualty is not yet known but it is alleged that more people are still at the button of the building knocking items for someone outside to rescue them. The Inquirer will bring subsequent follow-up of the story.
