Yesterday, the Liberian Lone Stars defeated The Cranes of Uganda 2 goals to 0 at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex in Painesville, outside Monrovia.
The game was a Fifa Brazil 2014 World Cup Qualifier. The stadium was jam-packed. Liberia went ahead with a header in the 36 minutes through Malaysian based Patrick Wleh to wild celebration from the 30 thousand capacity filled fans.
The second goal came through Anthony Laffor who was renamed team captain after months of expulsion due to disciplinary reasons. The South African based Mamelodi Sunsdown Skipper got his first International goal five minutes into the second half. It was a 30 yard shot that beat goalie Denise Onyango.
Coach Jericho Nagbe deployed Laffor to play a central mid-field role, with French-based Alseny Keita.
Lone Star have moved to second place on the table in Group J with 4 points from 3 games, behind the Lions of Senegal.
